Özet

To organize armies for wars; Developing war tactics and resorting to some tricks to gain superiority over the enemy are activities that the Turks have been performing since the earliest times. In fact, it is known that the Hun Ruler Mete Han carried out this in a more organized way and organized his army magnificently. In addition, it is possible to see information about the regular troops, war arts and tactics of the Turks in the Orkhon monuments. As for the Seljuks, they also carried out many military activities in their wars; They successfully carried out military maneuvers such as raids, surprise raids, fake retreats and ambushes aimed at wearing down and intimidating the enemy. As a matter of fact, Anatolian Turkish lords arranged their army formations accordingly, as they both possessed Turkish military culture and were the carriers of the military traditions of the Turkish Seljuks; They used many military tricks and tactics in their campaigns and wars, interpreting them in their own way from time to time. Many factors such as the tricks and tactics applied according to the type of war, the psychological conditions of the armies, climatic conditions, geographical conditions, war equipment, the point where the army is positioned, how the army is positioned, the courage of the commander and the army, the foresight of the commander, the psychological and physiological state of the army are decisive in the outcome of the war. played a role. When Turkish lords and their emîrs were going to organize an expedition, preparations would begin days or even months in advance. These preparations consisted of activities such as knowing the enemy, controlling them, wearing them down and determining the direction of war. He always took into consideration such factors that could determine the fate of the war, before and during the war, and determined his battle order and tactics according to these elements. Since the war had a dynamic and complex structure and it was not known exactly what the enemy's move would be, the army order and tactics determined before the war could change from time to time during the war.

Siege warfare techniques, which the Turks coming from the steppe had to learn in a short time due to the structure of the Anatolian geography equipped with castles, were also used effectively by the Turkish Seljuks. Turks, who were introduced to siege wars for the first time after entering Anatolia, quickly mastered this war technique, which dates back to ancient times, and over time, they developed different tactics according to the situation of the place they besieged and the defensive measures taken by the enemy.
