Abstract
1878’de Girit’te huzursuzluklar yeniden arttı ve yeni bir isyana dönüştü. Otorite ve güvenlik
sağlamak amacıyla içinde Aziziye zırhlısının da yer aldığı bir filo Girit’e gönderildi. Suda
Limanı’na demirleyen zırhlıda idari ve kişisel sebeplerden dolayı kaptan değişimi gerekti.
Gruplaşmaların getirdiği gerginlikler ile birlikte gemide görev ortamı kalmamıştı. Otoriteyi
sağlayabilmek için yeniden kaptan değişimine karar verildi. Fakat görev değişimi için gönderilen
kaptan gemiye alınmadı. Böylece Aziziye zırhlısında isyan başladı. 1880’de gerçekleşen hadise iki
ay kadar devam etti. Yaşananlar gemide subay olarak görev yapan Süleyman Nutki Bey’in hatıratında
da yer bulmuştur. Mevcut belge ve bilgiler ışığında konu aydınlığa kavuşturulmaya çalışılacaktır.
Olayın sebepleri, gelişimi ve sonucu, devletin hadiseye yaklaşımı ve Osmanlı bahriyesindeki
tesiri incelenecek ve dönemin deniz gücü konusunda bazı tespitler yapılmaya çalışılacaktır.

Abstract
In 1878, unrest increased again in Crete. A fleet, including the Aziziye ironclad, was sent to Crete
to reestablish authority and security. A change of captain/commander was required due to administrative
and personal reasons on the battleship anchored in Suda Port. With the tensions brought
about by the groupings, there was no duty atmosphere on the ship. In order to provide authority,
it was decided to change the commander. However, the commander sent for the changeof duty was not taken on board. Thus, the revolt began aboard the Aziziye ironclad (“agitation”
as the documents of the period describe it). The incident that took place in 1880 continued for
two months. The events also took place in the memoirs of Süleyman Nutki Bey, who served as
an officer on the ship. The subject will be clarified in the light of existing documents and information
in hand. The reasons for the event and its developments and result, and the approach of
the state to the event and its effect on the Ottoman navy will be examined and some determinations
will be made about the naval power of the period.
